NTA Issues Detailed Dress Code and Religious Item Guidelines for CUET UG 2026
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released comprehensive instructions regarding dress codes and religious items ahead of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate programs, scheduled to begin on May 11, 2026. The examination will be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across multiple cities in India and 15 international locations, continuing until May 31, 2026.
Religious Attire and Items: What Candidates Need to Know
In a significant clarification, the NTA has confirmed that candidates will be permitted to wear religious threads such as kalava or similar items of faith during the examination. However, this allowance comes with a mandatory condition — examinees must arrive at their designated test centers well in advance to undergo the necessary security screening procedures, including frisking.
The agency has also advised candidates to opt for light-colored clothing, preferably white, for the examination day. While woolen garments are permissible for those who may need them, candidates choosing to wear such items must also report to the test center early to allow sufficient time for thorough security checks.
Essential Identity Verification Requirements
All candidates are required to carry the same photo identification document that was uploaded during their online application process. This same identification must also match the details printed on their admit cards. The NTA has emphasized the importance of consistency in identity documentation.
For candidates whose live photograph taken during application submission did not match the photo available in their Aadhaar card, or those who registered using alternative identification documents, additional verification steps have been outlined. These individuals must bring original copies of necessary certificates for physical verification at the examination center on the day of the test.
Certificate Verification Protocol
The verification certificate must be properly signed and validated by a principal or head master of an educational institution, or by any Class-I gazetted officer. Acceptable authorities include tehsildars, revenue officers, Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), District Magistrates (DMs), or Class-I gazetted officers from Indian embassies in the case of NRI candidates. The certificate format must strictly adhere to the specifications provided in the NTA’s public notice dated April 7, 2026.
Examination Schedule and Format
The CUET UG 2026 examination will be conducted entirely in computer-based mode across various centers in India and abroad. This digital format ensures standardized testing conditions and efficient result processing for all participants.
Extensive Examination Structure Across 35 Shifts
This year’s CUET UG examination presents a notably complex organizational challenge. Candidates are permitted to select up to five subjects simultaneously, resulting in over 67 lakh individual subject examinations being scheduled. On average, each student has opted for four to five subjects, creating numerous combinations of subject choices that have significantly expanded the examination’s scope.
To manage this extensive testing requirement effectively, the NTA has arranged for the examination to be conducted across 35 different shifts nationwide. This strategic scheduling ensures that all candidates can complete their selected subjects within the examination window while maintaining the integrity and security of the testing process.
How to Download the CUET UG Admit Card
Candidates can obtain their admit cards by following a straightforward online process. The official portal for CUET-related activities serves as the primary platform for this purpose. Here are the steps to access the admit card:

- Enter the required login credentials, including application ID and password
- Submit the information to proceed
- View the admit card displayed on the screen
- Download and save a copy for future reference
Candidates are strongly advised to download and print their admit cards well before the examination date and to verify all personal details for accuracy. Any discrepancies should be reported to the NTA immediately for correction.
