Delhi Government Revamps Education Portal with New Features for Students and Parents
The Delhi government has introduced a significantly upgraded version of its education department website, bringing a host of new digital tools designed to enhance transparency and improve the overall experience for students, parents, and schools. The refreshed platform now includes daily attendance tracking, mock test resources, question banks, and a dedicated fee review mechanism, marking a notable step forward in the digitalisation of school administration in the capital.
New Fee Review Section Empowers Parents
One of the standout additions to the website is the newly launched fee review tab. This feature allows parents and guardians to formally register complaints related to school fees, monitor the status of their submissions online, and even communicate directly via email with the chairperson of the fee review committee. The initiative aims to streamline grievance redressal and ensure that fee-related concerns are addressed in a timely and transparent manner.
The three-member committee overseeing fee matters is led by Justice Anil Dev Singh, former Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, who serves as chairperson. He is joined by J. S. Kochar, a chartered accountant, and R. K. Sharma, a former additional director of education, both acting as members. This composition brings together legal expertise, financial acumen, and deep knowledge of the education sector.
Committee Formation Rooted in Legal History
The establishment of this committee traces back to a 2009 writ petition filed by the Delhi Parents Federation in the Delhi High Court. The petition challenged an order that permitted non-government private schools to increase fees in line with the recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission. In its judgment delivered on August 12, 2011, the court directed the formation of a three-member panel to scrutinise the accounts of recognised private schools in Delhi to justify any fee hikes. Subsequently, R. K. Sharma was designated as the education expert by the chief secretary of the Delhi government, as per the official notification.
Mandatory Daily Attendance Updates for Government Schools
The revamped website also places a strong emphasis on attendance transparency. All 1,086 government schools are now required to update their attendance records on a daily basis, specifying the number of students present, absent, or on leave. This move is expected to help authorities monitor student engagement more closely and identify patterns that may require intervention.
Data available on the website as of Monday shows that attendance was recorded across 1,004 schools. Out of a total student population of 15,57,094, approximately 4,18,249 students were marked present, 2,56,604 were absent, and 8,82,241 were on leave. These figures offer a real-time snapshot of student participation across the capital’s government school network.
Legal Framework and Academic Resources Accessible Online
In addition to the attendance and fee-related features, the website now hosts the full text of the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fee Determination and Regulation) Act, 2025, along with its associated rules, in a dedicated section. This makes it easier for stakeholders to access the legal framework governing school fees without having to search through multiple sources.
Students preparing for competitive examinations will also find valuable study materials on the platform. The website offers subject-wise question papers and mock tests for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), allowing aspirants to practise and assess their readiness. Furthermore, a mental mathematics question bank and newly developed workbooks for students in classes 3 through 12 are available, providing a comprehensive resource hub for both classroom learning and self-study.
The upgraded portal reflects a broader push by the Delhi government to leverage technology in education governance. By consolidating administrative tools, legal documents, and academic resources into a single digital space, the website aims to serve as a one-stop destination for all education-related needs in the city.
