Delhi Private Schools to Release First Nursery Admission List Today
Parents across Delhi are set to receive significant updates today as private schools in the national capital prepare to publish their first merit list for nursery admissions for the 2026-27 academic session. According to official sources, this initial list is expected to feature names of approximately 1.25 lakh children seeking entry into nursery classes.
A total of 1,741 private unaided schools operating throughout the city will release their respective first lists on Friday. These lists will include both selected candidates and those placed on waiting lists, covering around 1.25 lakh students in total.
Revised Admission Framework
The education department has introduced a modified admission structure for the upcoming session. Under this revised framework, the foundational stage comprises nursery and kindergarten (KG) classes, followed by Class 1. This restructuring aims to streamline the early education pathway for young learners.
Age Criteria for Different Classes
The Directorate of Education has specified clear age requirements for admission into various classes for the 2026-27 session. Children must have reached the following minimum ages by March 31, 2026:
- Nursery: At least 3 years of age
- Kindergarten (KG): At least 4 years of age
- Class 1: At least 5 years of age
Schools have been granted the discretion to offer a relaxation of up to one month in age requirements, as decided by the respective school heads.
Admission Process Timeline
The admission procedure has followed a structured timeline leading up to today’s announcement. Schools were required to upload their admission criteria and point systems for open seats by November 28, with the exception of categories reserved for economically weaker sections (EWS), disadvantaged groups (DG), and children with special needs (CwSN).
The deadline for submitting application forms was December 27. During the application review process, schools considered multiple factors including proximity of residence to the institution, sibling enrollment, and alumni connections. By January 9, all schools had uploaded applicant details, followed by the release of points allocated to each child under the scoring system by January 16.
Upcoming Dates to Remember
Following today’s release of the first admission and waiting lists, the second list is scheduled to be published on February 9. Parents seeking clarification regarding point allocations can reach out to schools between January 24 and February 3. The entire admission process is slated to conclude on March 19.
Transparency and Compliance Measures
To ensure adherence to regulations and address parental concerns, district-level monitoring cells have been established. These bodies will oversee the admission process and handle any grievances that may arise. In cases where a lottery system becomes necessary, schools must conduct the draw in the presence of parents and maintain video recordings of the proceedings to guarantee complete transparency.
Fee Regulations for Schools
The education department has issued clear directives regarding financial aspects of the admission process. Schools are permitted to charge only a non-refundable registration fee of ₹25. Strict prohibitions are in place against collecting capitation fees or compelling parents to purchase prospectuses as a condition of admission.
