DRDO Launches Paid Internship Drive for Engineering and Science Students
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has announced a fresh internship opportunity for students pursuing engineering and science degrees. Through its Directorate General of Aeronautical Systems, the organisation is looking to fill 200 intern positions for the academic year 2026-27. This initiative offers students a valuable chance to gain hands-on experience at various DRDO laboratories while earning a stipend.
Key Dates and Application Window
The online application process will open on 26 May 2026 and remain active until 5 June 2026. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can submit their applications through the official DRDO website. The selection process will include a review of eligibility criteria, which will be conducted on the final submission date. Selected candidates will undergo a continuous internship programme lasting six months.
Eligibility Requirements
Only students currently enrolled in the final year of their undergraduate or postgraduate programmes can apply for this internship. Applicants must have secured a minimum CGPA of 6.5 to be considered. For undergraduate students, the sixth semester mark sheet is required, while postgraduate students must provide their second semester results.
In cases where the sixth or second semester results have not been declared at the time of application, eligibility will be determined based on alternative criteria. For undergraduate applicants, the average marks from the fourth and fifth semesters will be considered. Postgraduate candidates will be evaluated on the basis of their first semester performance. However, it is important to note that the sixth or second semester mark sheets must be submitted at the time of joining. Failure to produce these documents will result in the cancellation of the internship offer. Additionally, candidates must register for the full six-month duration of the programme.
Stipend Structure
Selected interns will receive a total stipend of ₹30,000 for the entire duration of the internship. This amount will be disbursed in two equal instalments of ₹15,000 each. The first payment will be made after the successful completion of the first three months, and the second instalment will follow upon completion of the remaining three months.
It is essential for candidates to understand that leaving the programme midway will disqualify them from receiving the internship completion certificate. Therefore, applicants should be prepared to commit to the full six-month period before applying.
Application Process
To apply for the DRDO internship, candidates need to follow a straightforward online procedure. Begin by visiting the official DRDO website and navigating to the recruitment or what’s new section. Locate the internship notification and read it thoroughly to confirm your eligibility before proceeding.
Once you have verified all requirements, fill out the online application form with accurate personal and academic details. Make sure to upload all necessary documents, including mark sheets and identification proof, in the specified format. After completing the form, review all entered information carefully to avoid any errors before submitting. It is also advisable to save a printed copy of the completed application form for future reference.
Important Considerations
This internship presents a significant opportunity for students to work within one of India’s premier defence research organisations. The exposure gained through this programme can prove invaluable for career development in the fields of engineering and applied sciences. Candidates are encouraged to prepare their documents in advance and apply well before the deadline to avoid any last-minute technical issues.
The selection will be based on academic performance and the fulfilment of eligibility criteria. Students who are in their final year and meet the CGPA requirement should consider this a promising avenue to enhance their practical knowledge and professional skills within a government research environment.
