Delhi University Distributes Laptops to 524 Female Students Under Sashakt Beti Project
In a significant move toward digital empowerment in higher education, the University of Delhi has equipped 524 female students with laptops through its Sashakt Beti Project. The initiative, carried out in partnership with BSES, aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure that young women have seamless access to online learning tools and digital resources.
A Ceremony Marked by Purpose and Commitment
The university hosted the Samarpann Samaroh 2026 on Thursday, during which the devices were officially handed over to the beneficiaries. The event also marked the launch of the second phase of the Sashakt Beti Project, signaling the university’s continued dedication to fostering inclusive education.
The laptops, valued at approximately ₹2.35 crore, were distributed keeping in mind the specific technological needs of the students. The selection of beneficiaries reflects a thoughtful approach, prioritizing those from vulnerable and underprivileged backgrounds.
Who Are the Beneficiaries?
The recipients include a diverse group of students facing various challenges:
- Orphaned students pursuing their studies at Delhi University
- Students from single-parent households
- Students from families with an annual income of less than ₹4 lakh
- Visually impaired students enrolled across DU faculties, departments, centres, and colleges
This targeted distribution ensures that the support reaches those who need it most, enabling them to participate fully in the digital academic environment.

Professor Yogesh Singh, Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Expressing gratitude to BSES for the generous contribution, he emphasized that the spirit of dedication brings with it a sense of responsibility. Professor Anil Kumar, CEO of the University of Delhi Foundation, elaborated on the program’s objectives.
