DU Set to Revise BA Programme Combinations as UG Admissions Enter Next Phase

Delhi University is preparing to announce revised combinations for several BA programmes this week, coinciding with the launch of the second phase of undergraduate admissions under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS-UG). The first phase of admissions is currently underway, with students registering through the CSAS portal.

The university is taking this step to address persistently low enrolment in certain courses that have seen weak demand over the past several years. According to the Dean of Admissions, Haneet Gandhi, the decision follows a thorough review of historical admission data and trends.

Gandhi told PTI, “We are going to make some changes to the BA programme combinations because certain combinations will be modified. We have analysed data and trends from the last few years. This decision is entirely data-driven. The information will be released this week along with the start of the second phase.”

Pairing Low-Demand Subjects with Popular Courses

To boost enrolment in underperforming BA programmes, Delhi University constituted a committee tasked with studying admission patterns and proposing remedies. The committee has recommended that colleges reassess their current subject combinations and integrate low-demand disciplines with more popular ones to attract a larger number of students.

Among the specific suggestions, the committee has proposed creating new BA programme combinations by pairing languages such as Urdu, Arabic, Persian, Bengali, and Telugu with other subjects. This approach aims to make these language courses more appealing to prospective students while preserving their availability within the university’s academic framework.

Admissions to 73 undergraduate programmes offered across 67 DU colleges, along with more than 100 BA programme combinations, will be based on CUET-UG 2026 scores. Candidates must also fulfil the eligibility criteria specified for each course they wish to apply to.

What to Expect in CSAS-UG Phase 2

Once the initial registration process is complete, candidates will need to participate in the second phase of CSAS-UG. This stage involves several key steps that determine which programmes and colleges a student can ultimately be considered for.

  • Students must fill in their preferences for both programmes and colleges through the CSAS portal.
  • Candidates are required to map their CUET-UG subjects with the subjects they studied in Class 12.
  • The university will only accept language and domain-specific CUET papers that correspond to subjects studied at the Class 12 level.
  • Based on this subject mapping, the system will determine which programmes a candidate is eligible for.
  • Only after eligibility is confirmed will students be able to submit their choices for courses and colleges.

The university has indicated that the complete schedule for the second phase of CSAS-UG will be released shortly. Officials have urged students to keep track of official announcements and ensure they complete all required steps within the specified timelines.

This move is part of a broader effort by Delhi University to streamline its admissions process and ensure that all programmes, including those in less commonly chosen languages, continue to attract students. By aligning course offerings with actual demand patterns, the university hopes to optimise seat utilisation and provide students with more flexible academic options.

The revised BA combinations are expected to offer students a wider range of choices, combining traditional language studies with other disciplines. This could open up new academic and career pathways for undergraduates while ensuring that the university’s language departments remain vibrant and well-subscribed.

As the admissions process progresses, students are advised to regularly check the CSAS portal for updates and to prepare the necessary documentation for the preference-filling stage. The university has emphasised that all decisions are based on transparent, data-driven analysis and are designed to benefit both students and the institution in the long run.
