Delhi University Set to Open CSAS Portal for UG Admissions This Week

Following the announcement of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) 2026 results, Delhi University has revealed significant updates regarding its undergraduate admission process. The university is expected to activate its undergraduate admission portal by the end of this week, with plans to commence the new academic session from July 21, 2026.

CSAS Portal Launch Imminent

According to Vikas Gupta, Registrar of Delhi University, the institution is in the final stages of preparing the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal for launch. The university aims to begin the academic session starting July 21, and the portal is currently undergoing final checks and verification of necessary details. If everything proceeds according to plan, the CSAS portal will be operational within this week.

Over 71,000 Seats Available Across Multiple Courses

Delhi University attracts a substantial number of applicants each year, and this admission cycle is no exception. Admissions will be conducted for more than 71,000 seats spread across approximately 79 undergraduate programs offered in over 70 affiliated colleges. The CUET-UG serves as the single entrance examination for undergraduate admissions across central universities, and Delhi University follows this standardized assessment for its selection process.

Understanding the Admission Procedure

Once the CSAS portal becomes active, candidates will need to complete their registration as the first step. Following registration, students can select their preferred colleges and courses based on their interests and qualifications.

The university will release seat allocation lists in multiple phases, determined by CUET scores and the preference order submitted by applicants. After each allocation round, students will have two distinct options:

  • Accept the allocated seat and freeze their admission to secure the position
  • Opt for the upgrade option, which keeps them eligible for higher-priority courses or colleges in subsequent allocation lists

Historical Concerns About CUET Delays

In recent years, some faculty members have raised concerns regarding delays in the CUET-based admission process, noting that such postponements disrupt the academic calendar. In 2025, Delhi University managed to start classes from August 1, though admission and mop-up rounds extended until late September. This resulted in several students joining their programs several weeks after instruction had already begun.

Similarly, in 2024, delays in CUET-UG results pushed the academic session start to August 29, with mop-up rounds continuing into October. These recurring delays have prompted discussions about streamlining the admission timeline to better serve students and maintain academic schedules.

CUET Ensuring Equal Opportunities

Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh emphasized that CUET has substantially addressed the disparities that previously existed due to varying evaluation systems across different education boards. In the past, admissions were based on Class 12 marks, and the inconsistency in assessment standards among boards meant that students did not always receive equal opportunities. CUET has introduced a uniform standard for all candidates, and the results have been encouraging.

Reassurance for Prospective Students

Before the admission process begins, the Vice Chancellor has offered guidance to students, advising them not to panic and to carefully fill in their preferences on the CSAS portal. He reiterated that admissions will be based entirely on CUET scores. Students whose Class 12 marks change following re-evaluation can submit updated documents until September 30. If necessary, this deadline may be extended to October.

The university administration is working diligently to ensure a smooth and transparent admission process this year, aiming to avoid the delays that have affected previous cycles while maintaining the quality and fairness of the selection system.
