Sacred Ekadashi Observances in June 2026

The month of June 2026 holds profound spiritual significance for devotees of Lord Vishnu, as it features two highly revered Ekadashi fasts: Parama Ekadashi and Nirjala Ekadashi. These observances are considered among the most meritorious in the Hindu calendar, offering devotees an opportunity to seek divine blessings, cleanse past transgressions, and invite prosperity into their lives. While all Ekadashi fasts are deemed holy, these two particular dates carry unique importance due to their timing and the strictness of their observance.

Parama Ekadashi: Date, Timings, and Rituals

When Does Parama Ekadashi Occur?

Parama Ekadashi falls during the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the Adhika Masa, also known as the extra lunar month. In 2026, this sacred day will be observed on Thursday, June 11. The Ekadashi tithi begins at 12:57 AM on June 11 and concludes at 10:36 PM on the same day. The most auspicious window for performing the puja rituals extends from 10:36 AM to 2:05 PM.

Breaking the Fast (Parana)

Devotees should break their fast on June 12 between 5:23 AM and 8:10 AM. The Dwadashi tithi, which marks the end of the fasting period, remains in effect until 7:36 PM that evening.

Spiritual Significance of Parama Ekadashi

This Ekadashi occurs only once every three years, coinciding with the rare Adhika Masa, which amplifies its spiritual potency. Religious texts state that those who observe this fast with complete devotion and stay awake through the night in prayer are blessed with heavenly rewards. Performing acts of charity on this day—such as donating food, grains, or money—ensures that the devotee never faces scarcity of resources and accumulates abundant virtuous merits.

Nirjala Ekadashi: Date, Timings, and Observances

When Does Nirjala Ekadashi Occur?

Nirjala Ekadashi, which falls in the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) of the Jyeshtha month, is regarded as the most rigorous and supreme among all Ekadashis. In 2026, this fast will be observed on Thursday, June 25. The Ekadashi tithi commences at 6:12 PM on June 24 and ends at 8:09 PM on June 25. The preferred time for worship is from 10:39 AM to 2:05 PM.

Breaking the Fast (Parana)

The fast should be concluded on June 26 between 5:25 AM and 8:13 AM. Dwadashi tithi remains until 10:22 PM that night.

Spiritual Significance of Nirjala Ekadashi

As the name suggests, Nirjala Ekadashi requires devotees to abstain completely from water, making it one of the most demanding fasts in Hinduism. According to ancient scriptures, observing this single fast bestows the same spiritual merit as performing one thousand Ashwamedha sacrifices and one hundred Surya yagnas. Remarkably, it is believed to confer the cumulative benefits of all Ekadashis observed throughout the entire year.

The Padma Purana emphasizes that sincere charity on this day—including donations of gold, sesame seeds, land, cows, food grains, water, footwear, and umbrellas—protects the soul from the torments of Yama’s realm and ensures a peaceful afterlife.

Powerful Mantras for Lord Vishnu

Chanting these sacred mantras on Ekadashi is considered highly auspicious for invoking the grace of Lord Vishnu:

  • Om Namo Narayanaya Namah
  • Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya Namah
  • Om Narayanaya Vidmahe Vasudevaya Dhimahi Tanno Vishnuh Prachodayat
  • Om Vishnave Namah

Important Notes for Devotees

Both Parama Ekadashi and Nirjala Ekadashi demand strict adherence to fasting rules. While Parama Ekadashi permits limited food intake for those unable to observe a complete fast, Nirjala Ekadashi requires total abstinence from food and water. Devotees should consult their spiritual guides or local priests for personalized guidance, especially if they have health concerns.

These observances are not merely about abstaining from food but are opportunities for deep spiritual reflection, prayer, and connecting with the divine. The combined power of these two Ekadashis in June 2026 offers a rare chance to purify the mind, body, and soul while inviting Lord Vishnu’s boundless blessings into one’s life.
