HPBOSE Class 10 Results 2026: Modest Improvement, Yet Six-Year Peak Remains Unbeaten

The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has officially released the Class 10 results for the 2026 academic session. This year’s outcome reflects a noticeable improvement compared to the previous year, offering a sense of progress for students and educators alike. However, despite the positive trend, the board has once again fallen short of surpassing the extraordinary pass percentage record established in 2021.

In 2025, the overall pass percentage stood at 79.08 percent. This year, that figure has climbed to a more encouraging 83.87 percent. While this marks a clear step forward, it still does not come close to the exceptional 99.70 percent pass rate achieved in 2021—a year that remains the benchmark for the highest performance in the last half-decade.

The 2021 Anomaly and Its Context

The 2021 results were unprecedented, with nearly every candidate clearing the examination. This was largely due to the unique evaluation methodology adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic, which altered the standard assessment framework. As a result, the pass percentage soared to levels that have proven difficult to replicate under normal examination conditions in subsequent years.

Year-Wise Performance Overview

A closer look at the pass percentages from recent years reveals a fluctuating yet generally resilient pattern:

  • 2026: 83.87%
  • 2025: 79.08%
  • 2024: 74.60%
  • 2023: 89.70%
  • 2022: 87.50%
  • 2021: 99.70%

While the 2026 results are certainly better than the last two years, they still trail the figures recorded in 2022 and 2023. This suggests that while the system is recovering, it has yet to return to the higher performance levels seen in the early part of the decade.

Candidate Statistics and Success Rates

This year, a total of 93,694 students registered for and appeared in the Class 10 examinations. Of these, 78,150 students successfully passed, earning a place in the pass list. Additionally, 8,433 candidates have been granted compartment examinations, allowing them another opportunity to clear the subjects they missed. Unfortunately, 6,559 students were unable to pass this time around.

Outstanding Performance by Female Students

Once again, female students have delivered exceptional results, dominating the merit list. The top position in the entire state has been secured by Anmol, a student from AVM Senior Secondary School in Pahra, Kangra district, who achieved an impressive 699 marks out of the total. Her accomplishment highlights the continued academic excellence and dedication of young women in the region.

Examination Schedule and Evaluation Process

The Class 10 examinations were conducted over a nearly four-week period, running from March 3 to March 29, 2026. To ensure a smooth and efficient evaluation process, the board established 41 dedicated assessment centers across the state. Approximately 5,000 teachers were deployed to manage the extensive task of grading answer sheets, reflecting the scale and seriousness with which the board approaches this annual exercise.

The release of the 2026 results provides a moment of reflection on the state of secondary education in Himachal Pradesh. While the improvement over last year is welcome, the persistent gap between current figures and the 2021 peak serves as a reminder of the unique circumstances that shaped that particular year’s outcomes. For now, students, parents, and educators will look forward to the compartment exams and the opportunities they present for those seeking to improve their scores.
