IGNOU Extends January 2026 Admission Deadline for ODL and Online Programmes

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the application deadline for its January 2026 session across Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online programmes. Candidates now have until 10 April 2026 to submit their applications, a significant shift from the earlier cutoff of 30 March 2026.

This extension offers a valuable window for prospective students who may have missed the initial deadline. The university has confirmed that the revised date applies exclusively to fresh applicants enrolling in the affected programmes. However, certificate courses and semester-based programmes will not benefit from this relaxation and will retain their original schedules.

How to Apply for IGNOU Admissions

Applicants interested in ODL programmes can complete the registration process through the designated admission portal, while those opting for online courses must use the separate online programme portal. Both platforms are accessible via the university’s official website.

The application procedure is straightforward and entirely digital. Candidates need to begin by visiting the official IGNOU website and selecting the “New Registration” option. After entering basic personal details, applicants will receive login credentials to access the application form. The form requires careful entry of personal, academic, and contact information.

Documents Required for Submission

Before starting the online application, candidates should keep the following documents ready in scanned format:

  • A recent photograph and signature, each under 100 KB in size
  • Academic certificates and mark sheets, with file sizes not exceeding 200 KB
  • Experience certificates, where applicable for specific programmes
  • Category certificates for candidates applying under reserved quotas

Once all information is entered and documents are uploaded in the prescribed format and size, applicants must select their preferred course. The final step involves paying the application fee through the online payment gateway and submitting the completed form.

Important Points to Remember

After successful submission, candidates are advised to download and save the confirmation page for future reference. This document serves as proof of application and may be required during subsequent stages of the admission process.

The extended deadline provides a practical opportunity for students who require additional time to prepare their applications. With the process being fully online, candidates can complete their submissions from anywhere at their convenience. The university encourages all eligible applicants to take advantage of this revised timeline and complete their applications well before the 10 April cutoff to avoid any last-minute technical difficulties.

This move aligns with IGNOU’s commitment to making higher education accessible to a wider audience, particularly working professionals and learners in remote areas who rely on the flexibility of distance education. Prospective students are urged to review programme-specific eligibility criteria and fee structures before applying.
