Jamia Millia Islamia Integrates SWAYAM Courses into Its Academic Framework

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has taken a significant step forward in modernizing its educational approach by incorporating SWAYAM courses into its curriculum for the first time, aligning with the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. SWAYAM, a digital learning platform launched by the Government of India, offers students access to a wide range of online courses across multiple disciplines. This integration marks a notable shift in how the university blends traditional classroom instruction with flexible, digital learning opportunities.

University officials confirmed that this move is designed to give students greater autonomy in shaping their academic journey. By allowing learners to select subjects based on their personal interests and career aspirations, JMI aims to foster a more personalized and engaging educational experience. The inclusion of SWAYAM courses is expected to broaden the academic horizons for students, enabling them to supplement their core studies with specialized knowledge from experts across the country.

Successful Completion of End-Semester Examinations

In addition to this curriculum enhancement, the university has successfully concluded its end-semester examinations for over 280 academic programs, spanning undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), diploma, and certificate courses. The examinations were conducted smoothly between May 2 and May 25, with approximately 20,000 students appearing for their respective tests across various departments.

The Controller of Examinations office played a pivotal role in ensuring the entire process ran efficiently. Comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were issued to both students and faculty members, streamlining the evaluation and submission of answer scripts. This meticulous planning enabled the university to declare around 800 examination results well within the scheduled timeframe. As a result, students faced no unnecessary delays in receiving their grades, mark sheets, or provisional degree certificates, allowing them to proceed promptly with applications for higher education opportunities or employment prospects.

Massive Admissions Drive for Academic Session 2026-27

Parallel to the examination cycle, JMI has also wrapped up its admission test procedures for the upcoming academic session 2026-27. The university received an overwhelming response, with over one lakh applications submitted for admission into its diverse range of UG, PG, diploma, and certificate programs. Entrance examinations were conducted across 16 cities nationwide, including major hubs such as Delhi, Lucknow, Patna, Srinagar, Jammu, Jaipur, Guwahati, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bhopal, Dehradun, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Ranchi, ensuring wide accessibility for aspiring students from different regions.

Admission tests were also held for PhD programs and the Civil Services Coaching initiative under the Residential Coaching Academy. In a move towards standardized national testing, the university has decided to accept scores from various central entrance exams for specific programs:

  • Admission to 25 programs will be granted based on CUET-UG scores.
  • B.Tech admissions will rely on JEE (Main) 2026 rankings.
  • B.Arch admissions will be determined by NATA 2026 scores.
  • The Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP B.Ed) will consider NCET 2026 results.

The university has already initiated the process of announcing admission results, with notifications being released in phases.

School-Level Admissions and Enhanced Security Measures

Beyond higher education, JMI also conducted entrance examinations for admissions into classes 6, 9, and 11 at its constituent schools. These tests were held in five different cities and attracted more than 53,500 applications, reflecting the strong demand for quality education at the school level within the Jamia ecosystem.

Ehteshamul Haq, the Controller of Examinations, highlighted the university’s strategic approach to managing the simultaneous conduct of semester exams and admission tests. Through improved planning and optimal resource utilization, both processes were executed without any major logistical hurdles. He also noted that enhanced security protocols were implemented this year to maintain the integrity of the examination process. Measures included the deployment of metal detectors at all admission test centers to prevent impersonation and other unfair practices, ensuring a level playing field for all candidates.

Vice-Chancellor Mazhar Asif expressed satisfaction with the timely completion of examinations, admissions, and result declarations. He emphasized that this disciplined adherence to academic schedules will significantly bolster the university’s institutional planning and contribute positively to its future growth and development trajectory. The seamless execution of these critical academic activities underscores JMI’s commitment to maintaining high standards of governance and student support.
