JoSAA Releases Round 1 Mock Seat Allotment for 2026 Engineering Admissions

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority has officially released the Round 1 mock seat allotment results for the 2026 counselling session. Candidates who completed their registration and choice filling before the deadline of 8 PM on June 7 can now check their provisional seat allocation on the official JoSAA portal.

This mock allotment serves as a preliminary exercise rather than a final confirmation of seats. It is designed to give applicants a realistic preview of the institution and branch they may receive based on their current preferences, JEE scores, category, and the number of available seats across participating institutes.

Candidates Still Have Time to Revise Their Choices

Following the release of the mock results, applicants retain the flexibility to modify their submitted preferences before the actual allocation begins. The following changes are permitted:

  • Rearranging the priority order of preferred colleges and academic programs
  • Adding new choices that were not previously selected
  • Removing options that are no longer of interest
  • Adjusting preferences based on expected cutoff trends and individual career objectives

Second Mock Allotment Scheduled for June 10

Candidates who submit or revise their choices by 5 PM on June 9 will be considered for the second round of mock seat allocation. The results for this round are scheduled to be published on June 10. Once both mock allotment phases have been completed, the actual seat allocation process will commence based on the final set of preferences submitted by each candidate.

Key Dates to Keep in Mind

The following timeline outlines the remaining critical milestones for the JoSAA counselling process:

  • Round 1 mock seat allotment: June 8, 2026
  • Round 2 mock seat allotment: June 10, 2026
  • Final deadline for choice filling and registration: June 11, 2026
  • Round 1 actual seat allotment result: June 13, 2026

Understanding the Purpose of Mock Seat Allotment

The mock seat allocation released by JoSAA enables candidates to evaluate their current standing in the admission process. By reviewing these provisional results, students can determine whether their existing preferences are likely to secure them a seat or whether adjustments are necessary to improve their chances of admission to a desired college or course.

It is essential to understand that the mock allotment does not finalise any seat for any candidate. The results are purely indicative and intended to assist applicants in making informed decisions about their choice list before the real allocation takes place.

Over 67,000 Seats Available Through JoSAA Counselling

This year, admission will be granted to more than 67,000 seats across the Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology, and other Government Funded Technical Institutions located throughout the country. The scale of this process makes the mock allotment stage particularly valuable, as it offers candidates a strategic advantage to refine their choices before the official counselling rounds begin.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to carefully analyse their mock allotment results and assess whether their current preferences align with their academic aspirations. If necessary, modifications should be made before the June 11 deadline to ensure the best possible outcome in the actual seat allocation rounds.
