Fatal Attack at Residential School in Karnataka
A violent incident at a private residential school in Karnataka has left one student dead and several others injured. The attack, which took place inside the school hostel, has sent shockwaves through the local community and prompted an immediate police investigation.
What Happened on Saturday Night
According to police officials, a Class 9 student allegedly launched a brutal assault on his classmates late Saturday evening. The accused is believed to have used a sharp object and an iron rod during the attack. One student succumbed to his injuries, while seven others are currently receiving medical treatment.
The deceased boy was a resident of Andhra Pradesh. His body has been sent to the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) in Ballari for post-mortem examination.
Sequence of Events
Authorities report that nine students were under the supervision of a social science teacher, who also serves as the hostel warden, at the time of the incident. The situation escalated suddenly when the accused student became agitated and began attacking those around him without warning.
Police Inspector General (IGP) of Ballari Range, P S Harsha, confirmed the details of the incident. “The students were in the care of their teacher when the accused lost his temper and went on a rampage. Tragically, one student lost his life and seven others are being treated for their injuries,” he stated.
Investigation Underway
Initial inquiries have been completed, and the teacher’s statement has been recorded. Teams from the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have visited the site to gather evidence. The accused student reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack, and a search operation is currently underway to locate him.
The warden also sustained injuries while attempting to intervene and stop the assault. Police have registered a case at the Bruspet police station and are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
Juvenile Justice Procedures to be Followed
Since the accused is a minor, the case will be handled under the Juvenile Justice Act. IGP Harsha emphasized that the investigation would be conducted with the appropriate sensitivity required for matters involving minors in conflict with the law. He noted that the accused would be provided with the necessary legal protections throughout the process.
“The parents of the deceased student will also be questioned as part of the investigation. A detailed report will be prepared and submitted to the relevant courts,” Harsha added.
Possible Motive
While the exact reason behind the attack remains unclear, sources suggest that a minor disagreement may have triggered the violent outburst. The students were reportedly settling down to sleep after dinner when the incident occurred.
The injured students are currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. One of them, who was critically wounded, died while being transported for medical care.
