A late-night scooter accident on the IIT Bhubaneswar campus has resulted in the death of a PhD scholar and left another student seriously injured. The tragic incident occurred when the two-wheeler collided with a road divider, according to an official statement released on Tuesday.

The crash took place around 11:20 PM on Monday. Both researchers were immediately rushed to the institute’s Sanjivani Hospital for emergency care. Despite prompt medical attention, one of the scholars succumbed to their injuries shortly after being transferred to a larger medical facility.
The second student, who was riding pillion, remains admitted in the neuro ICU and is reported to be in stable condition.

According to the official statement from IIT Bhubaneswar, the rider lost control of the scooter while approaching a turn, causing the vehicle to slam into the divider. The impact threw both occupants onto the road.
