mAadhaar App Gets a Major Upgrade: Here’s How to Update Your Mobile Number and Address
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has rolled out a full version 2.0 of its mAadhaar application, bringing a refreshed design and reorganized features. While the app’s layout has changed, the core services remain the same, including the ability to update your mobile number and address. However, these options have been moved to a new section within the app. The fees and processing times for these updates have not changed.
Getting Started with the New mAadhaar App
Although the app’s interface has been overhauled, the registration process remains straightforward. New users must download the application, enter their Aadhaar number, verify their mobile number, and complete a face authentication. After setting a secure PIN, the app is ready to use.
How to Update Your Mobile Number
In the updated app, the option to change your mobile number is now located under the ‘Services’ tab. From there, you can enter your new number, verify it using an OTP, and then complete a face authentication step. Once these steps are done, you can submit the update request. The entire process typically takes around 15 days and costs a fee of 75 rupees.
How to Update Your Address
The address update option is also found within the ‘Services’ tab. Users have two ways to update their address. The first method involves uploading a valid document, such as an electricity bill. The second method allows you to update your address using the Aadhaar card of a family member. In both cases, you will need to complete face authentication and make the required payment before the request is sent to UIDAI for processing.
Updating Your Address Using a Family Member’s Aadhaar
If you choose to update your address through a family member’s Aadhaar card, you will need to provide their Aadhaar number. After that, you must complete face authentication and make the payment. Once these steps are done, the address update request is submitted automatically.
Locking Your Biometrics for Enhanced Security
One of the most important security features in the new app is the ability to lock your biometric data. This option is prominently displayed on the home page, right below your QR code, labelled as “Biometrics Unlocked.” By tapping on it, you can instantly lock your fingerprint and iris data. This prevents unauthorized access and significantly reduces the risk of cloning or fraud.
