Nationwide Mock Drill Conducted Ahead of NEET-UG 2026 Re-Exam
With the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination set to take place tomorrow, the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted a comprehensive mock drill across the country on Saturday to assess preparedness. The agency has implemented stringent security measures to ensure the examination is conducted in a secure and transparent manner. More than 22.79 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the test on Sunday.
Exam Schedule and Candidate Guidelines
The re-examination will be held in 551 cities across India and 14 cities overseas, with the test scheduled from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM. This re-test comes approximately seven weeks after the original examination was cancelled due to allegations of paper leakage. Candidates have been instructed to arrive at their designated exam centres between 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM.
Officials have confirmed that entry gates will close precisely at 1:30 PM, and no candidate will be permitted entry under any circumstances after that time. For candidates with disabilities (PwD/PwBD) who qualify for extended time, the examination will continue until 6:20 PM.
Comprehensive Security Arrangements
The NTA has stated that all preparations for conducting the re-examination smoothly have been finalised. District administrations, police forces, and specialised escort teams have been deployed to ensure the secure transportation of confidential examination materials to test centres. A total of 674 city coordinators and 6,669 observers have been appointed to monitor the entire examination process.
Each examination centre will have dedicated centre superintendents and invigilators to maintain the integrity of the test. According to the NTA, over 2 lakh personnel, including police and district administration officials, have been assigned examination duties. In a first for the examination, the Indian Air Force is assisting with the transportation of question papers to various centres, adding an extra layer of security.
Multi-Layered Security Protocol
To ensure fairness and prevent any malpractice, the NTA has implemented a comprehensive multi-tier security system:
- Question papers and other confidential materials will be handled under strict security protocols throughout the process.
- Vehicles transporting examination materials will be equipped with GPS tracking and accompanied by police escorts.
- All examination centres will have CCTV surveillance connected to a central control room for real-time monitoring.
- Aadhaar-based biometric verification will be conducted to prevent impersonation and ensure only genuine candidates appear for the test.
- Additional biometric machines and trained personnel have been deployed to expedite the verification process.
Candidate Facilities and Accommodations
Keeping in mind the summer heat, all examination centres will be equipped with adequate electricity, fans, proper lighting, drinking water, sanitation facilities, and medical assistance. Candidates are permitted to carry transparent water bottles to the examination hall.
Candidates with diabetes may bring sugar tablets and fruits such as bananas, apples, and oranges as per the NTA’s guidelines. The agency has advised all candidates to verify their examination centre locations in advance and arrive well before the reporting time. Those wearing traditional or religious attire have been requested to arrive earlier to complete the additional screening process.
Official Communication and Advisory
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has held several high-level meetings to review the examination preparations. The NTA has also launched an official WhatsApp channel to disseminate accurate information to candidates. The agency has cautioned students against believing claims circulating on social media regarding paper leaks, fake answer keys, or paid assistance in the examination.
State-Level Support Measures
Several state governments have introduced special arrangements to assist candidates appearing for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination. Some states are offering free travel on government buses to ensure candidates reach their examination centres on time and face minimal transportation difficulties.
Additionally, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges and institutions under its purview to not grant leave to students on June 20 and 21, except in cases of extreme necessity. This decision follows concerns that some medical students might engage in activities that could compromise the integrity of the examination process.
Enhanced Vigilance Across Centres
The examination authorities have emphasised that maintaining the sanctity of the test is of paramount importance. With multiple layers of security including physical surveillance, technological monitoring, and personnel deployment, the NTA aims to conduct the examination without any untoward incidents. The coordination between central authorities, state administrations, and local law enforcement reflects the seriousness with which the examination is being treated.
Candidates have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals attempting to influence the examination process. The NTA has established robust mechanisms for candidates to seek clarification or report concerns through official channels. The agency remains committed to ensuring that deserving candidates get a fair opportunity to pursue their medical education aspirations through a credible and unbiased examination process.
