Education Minister Urges States to Ensure Smooth Conduct of NEET UG Re-Exam

Preparations for the NEET UG re-examination 2026 have intensified across the country. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has written to all states, union territories, chief secretaries, and administrative authorities, seeking their cooperation in ensuring the examination is conducted fairly and without any disruptions.

In his communication, Pradhan has requested all states and union territories to put in place every necessary arrangement well ahead of the exam date. He expressed confidence that all administrative units will work together to ensure the smooth execution of this crucial test. The minister emphasized that student welfare and convenience remain the government’s top priority, and stressed that collaboration from all states is vital to keep the examination process transparent and efficient.

Focus on Essential Facilities at Exam Centres

Given the intense summer heat and prevailing heatwave conditions, the Education Minister has issued strict directives to ensure that all essential amenities are available at examination centres. These include safe drinking water, adequate seating arrangements, availability of fans and coolers, clean washrooms, shaded waiting areas, uninterrupted power supply, and transportation support for candidates. The aim is to ensure that students do not face any discomfort while appearing for the exam.

Special Attention to Transport Arrangements

Pradhan also highlighted the need for proper transport facilities on the day of the examination so that students can reach their centres on time and safely. The government believes it is essential to make both travel and the examination process secure during the hot weather, so that students are not subjected to any additional stress.

NEET UG Re-Exam Scheduled for 21 June

The National Testing Agency (NTA) had earlier cancelled the NEET UG examination held on 3 May following allegations of irregularities and paper leaks. In response, the central government decided to conduct a re-examination. The Education Minister has already announced that the NEET UG re-test will take place on 21 June. Admit cards for the re-examination will be made available by 14 June. The minister also stated that, to prevent such issues in the future, the medical entrance test will be conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode starting next year.

Additional Time for Candidates

Previously, students often spent considerable time signing OMR sheets and completing other formalities, which ate into their actual exam time. Under the revised rules, candidates will now receive an extra 15 minutes, bringing the total duration to 3 hours and 15 minutes. The NEET UG examination on 21 June will be held from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM.
