NEET UG 2026 Results Expected Soon; Counselling to Proceed on Schedule

The wait for NEET UG 2026 aspirants is likely to end shortly, with the National Testing Agency (NTA) confirming that results will be released promptly. The Director General of NTA has assured students that the counselling process for admission to medical colleges will begin as planned, without any unnecessary delays. This announcement brings relief to thousands of candidates who have been eagerly awaiting their outcomes.

Evaluation Underway and Tentative Timeline

According to NTA Director General Abhishek Singh, the evaluation of answer sheets is already in progress. As per current estimates, the answer key is expected to be released by the end of June, with the final results anticipated by July. Following the declaration of results, the counselling process for undergraduate medical programmes will commence. Singh emphasised that efforts are being made to ensure the academic session starts on time, and all necessary steps are being taken to avoid any postponement in the admission schedule.

Exam Conducted Within Record Time

This year, the NEET UG examination was organised again within a record span of just 37 days. Conducting a flawless exam with complete transparency and integrity in such a short timeframe was a significant challenge. However, collaborative efforts from teams at both the central and state levels ensured the smooth execution of the process. The NTA chief has also stated that the examination was held in a secure environment and was completely leak-proof, reinforcing confidence in the system among students and parents alike.

Special Arrangements for Candidates with Disabilities and Medical Conditions

The examination agency made extensive provisions to accommodate all candidates. More than 10,000 candidates with disabilities were provided with specialised facilities to ensure they could appear for the exam without any hindrance. Additionally, approximately 81 candidates dealing with severe health conditions received individual attention and separate arrangements. Among these were a candidate who had recently been involved in a road accident and another who was undergoing chemotherapy treatment at the time of the examination. These measures highlight the commitment to making the examination process inclusive and accessible for every aspirant.

Exam Duration Extended

In a notable change this year, the total duration of the NEET UG exam was extended. While the test previously lasted 180 minutes, the duration was increased to 195 minutes this time. The exam commenced at 2:00 PM and concluded at 5:15 PM, following the revised schedule. This additional time was likely introduced to give candidates more breathing room while attempting the paper.

Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

The NEET UG question paper consists of a total of 180 questions, carrying a cumulative weightage of 720 marks. The subject-wise distribution is as follows:

  • Physics: 45 questions (180 marks)
  • Chemistry: 45 questions (180 marks)
  • Biology: 90 questions (360 marks)

As per the marking scheme, each correct answer awards the candidate 4 marks. However, for every incorrect response, 1 mark is deducted as negative marking. If a question is left unanswered, no marks are awarded, and no penalty is applied either. Candidates are advised to carefully review the answer key once it is released to estimate their probable scores before the official results are announced.
