Helix-02: The Brain Behind the Brawn

At the core of this breakthrough is the Helix-02 AI network, a sophisticated system that integrates movement, object manipulation, balance, and non-stop operation into a single, seamless platform. Earlier generations of robots required separate systems for walking, grasping, and maintaining stability. Helix-02 changes the game by unifying vision, touch, and full-body control.

The robot is equipped with cameras embedded in its head and palms, along with specialized sensors in its fingers. This hardware allows it to coordinate its legs, torso, arms, and digits with pinpoint accuracy, enabling it to navigate tight spaces and perform complex tasks with ease. Whether bending to pick up a small object or reaching into a confined area, the robot moves with a fluidity that mimics human dexterity.

Training on Human Movement Data

Figure AI has also introduced a novel technology called System 0, which was trained on over 1,000 hours of human motion data. This system replaces the cumbersome, traditional coding methods that once limited robot flexibility. By learning directly from human movement patterns, the robot can now walk, turn, and stabilize itself just as a person would. This training allows it to execute continuous actions for extended periods without faltering.

Real-World Demonstrations of Precision and Endurance

In a compelling demo, a single robot autonomously emptied a dishwasher and reloaded it with dirty dishes over the course of four minutes—all without a single pause. Beyond kitchen chores, the robot can unscrew bottle caps, retrieve medication, handle syringes, and sort tiny metal fragments from scrap material. These tasks, which require fine motor skills and careful judgment, highlight the robot’s ability to perform work that once demanded human oversight.

Teamwork Without a Central Controller

Perhaps the most impressive feature is the robots’ ability to collaborate. During a test, two humanoid robots worked together to tidy an entire bedroom in just two minutes. They hung clothes, made the bed, removed trash, closed books, and rearranged furniture without colliding or needing instructions from a central computer. This autonomous coordination marks a significant leap forward in multi-robot cooperation.

Proven Performance in Industrial Settings

These robots are not limited to controlled lab environments. Last year, Figure AI’s humanoid robots demonstrated their capabilities at a BMW car factory in the United States. Standing about 170 centimeters tall and weighing 70 kilograms, the Figure 02 model handled a variety of tasks on the factory floor. It can lift up to 20 kilograms and has already moved over 90,000 car parts during 10-hour shifts, contributing to the production of more than 30,000 vehicles.

Figure AI envisions a future where these robots work alongside humans in factories, warehouses, and even homes. To prepare for this, the company is designing the robots to quickly adapt to their surroundings—reacting to people, objects, and other robots in real time. This adaptability is crucial for safe and efficient collaboration in dynamic environments.

With these groundbreaking advancements, Figure AI has raised the bar in the robotics industry. The company now directly competes with major players like Elon Musk’s Tesla, Agility Robotics, and Apptronik, all of which are racing to develop similar humanoid machines. By delivering a robot that can work an entire eight-hour shift without breaks, Figure AI has not only demonstrated technical prowess but has also accelerated the timeline for widespread autonomous labor.
