Delhi Startup Youth Festival 2026 Inaugurated at NSUT

The Education Minister of Delhi, Ashish Sood, officially inaugurated the Delhi Startup Youth Festival 2026 at Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT). During the ceremony, he highlighted the pivotal role students play in shaping the nation’s future, referring to them as the true architects of a developed India.

Minister Sood emphasized that institutions like NSUT are far more than mere academic hubs. According to him, they function as dynamic centers for innovation and national development, nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit among young minds.

Building a Robust Startup Ecosystem

At the event, the minister reiterated the government’s strong commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and positioning Delhi as the country’s startup capital. He described the Delhi Startup Youth Festival as a platform poised to become a flagship annual gathering. The festival aims to unite universities, colleges, IITs, mentors, investors, and industry leaders under one roof. This collaborative approach is designed to create a seamless ecosystem that bridges the gap between campus ideas and market-ready ventures.

Proposed Delhi Startup Policy and Financial Support

A significant announcement was made regarding the upcoming Delhi Startup Policy. The government is proposing a comprehensive five-year plan with an estimated outlay of ₹325 crore. The primary objective of this policy is to provide robust support to at least 5,000 startups by the year 2035.

To ensure that financial constraints do not hinder promising innovations at their inception, the government is also establishing the Delhi Student Seed Fund. This initiative is specifically designed to assist young entrepreneurs in the early stages of their journey.

Seed Grants and Recognition for Young Innovators

As part of the festival’s initiatives, the government is prepared to offer substantial financial backing to emerging businesses:

  • The top six startups will receive seed grants of up to ₹10 lakh each.
  • The leading 100 student-led startups will each be provided with ₹1 lakh in assistance.

This tiered support system is intended to encourage widespread participation and reward the most promising ventures emerging from the student community.

Entrepreneurship as a Catalyst for Social Change

Minister Sood also drew attention to the inclusive nature of India’s startup landscape. He noted that approximately 45 percent of Indian startups are currently led by women, showcasing the diverse talent pool driving the nation’s economy. Concluding his address, he championed entrepreneurship as one of the most powerful and effective mediums for driving social transformation, urging students to leverage their skills and ideas to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
