NTA Responds to NEET UG 2026 Irregularity Allegations

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued its first official response regarding allegations of malpractice and question paper leaks surrounding the NEET UG 2026 examination. In a formal press release, the agency confirmed that the exam, conducted on May 3, 2026, was held under stringent security measures. The statement also acknowledged receiving reports of potential irregularities four days after the test and confirmed that the matter has been referred to investigating authorities.

Examination Conducted with Multi-Layered Security Protocols

According to the NTA, the NEET UG 2026 examination was administered with comprehensive security arrangements at every stage of the process. The agency detailed several measures that were implemented to ensure the integrity of the test:

  • Question papers were transported to examination centers using vehicles equipped with GPS tracking systems
  • Each question paper carried a unique, traceable watermark for identification purposes
  • AI-powered CCTV surveillance was used to monitor all examination centers from a centralized control room
  • Biometric verification was conducted for every candidate before entry into the examination hall
  • 5G signal jammers were deployed at all test centers to prevent unauthorized communication

The agency emphasized that the examination process was completed according to the planned schedule across all centers without any operational disruptions.

Timeline of Reported Irregularities

The press release revealed that the NTA first received information about potential misconduct on the evening of May 7, 2026, which was four days after the examination had been conducted. By the morning of May 8, the agency had forwarded all received information to the appropriate central investigating agencies for verification and necessary action.

The NTA clarified that the arrests and actions reported in the media in recent days are the result of professional and timely work by law enforcement agencies. The testing body expressed appreciation for the investigating teams and confirmed its full cooperation, including the provision of examination-related data and technical assistance.

Investigation Ongoing; No Premature Conclusions

The NTA made it clear that the matter remains under active investigation and that relevant agencies will verify all facts before any determinations are made. The agency stated that it will refrain from commenting on any outcomes or potential actions until the investigation reaches its conclusion.

According to the official statement, any findings or conclusions reached by the investigating agencies will be made public through established procedures with complete transparency. Should additional measures be required following the investigation, decisions will be made in accordance with applicable regulations.

Appeal for Patience from Students and Parents

Addressing candidates of NEET UG 2026 and their families, the NTA urged that the efforts of the majority of honest students and the credibility of the examination should not be called into question. The agency acknowledged that such news reports could generate anxiety and stress among students preparing for their future academic pursuits.

The NTA encouraged students to continue their preparation and academic activities without unnecessary pressure, assuring them that necessary steps will be taken in coordination with the Ministry of Education if the situation requires intervention.

Support Helpline Information Released

To assist students and parents during this period, the NTA has shared helpline contact details. Candidates seeking information or assistance can reach out to the agency through the provided communication channels, including dedicated phone lines established for this purpose.

Commitment to Fair Examination Practices

In concluding its statement, the NTA reiterated its commitment to conducting fair, secure, and trustworthy examinations. The agency affirmed that it will continue working collaboratively with all investigating agencies to maintain the transparency and reliability of the examination system.

Background: The Rajasthan Controversy

The investigation stems from concerns raised in Rajasthan, where the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police, led by Additional Director General of Police Vishal Bansal, has been examining the alleged paper leak and irregularities. The inquiry was initiated after authorities discovered that a set of over 400 questions, which had been circulated before the examination, bore significant resemblance to the actual NEET UG question paper. The similarities were particularly pronounced in the biology and chemistry sections.

The SOG is currently working to determine who created and distributed this question set, as well as the underlying purpose or benefit behind its circulation. Investigators are also examining how this material became publicly available and the channels through which it was disseminated.

The investigation is progressing across multiple locations in Rajasthan, including Sikar. Initial indications emerged approximately four days after the May 3 examination, when several students in Sikar filed complaints. To date, no formal First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in connection with the case. While no arrests or detentions have been made, authorities have conducted interviews with several individuals as part of their inquiries.

The NTA has reiterated that the investigation remains in progress and that all relevant agencies are examining the facts in due course. The testing body has maintained its position of not drawing conclusions or commenting on potential outcomes until the investigation is complete. Any findings that emerge, regardless of whether they necessitate further action, will be disclosed transparently through established procedures.

As the Special Operations Group intensifies its scrutiny of the NEET UG 2026 examination process in Rajasthan, officials are stopping short of directly confirming a paper leak. However, the evidence uncovered during the investigation has raised significant concerns among the agencies involved, prompting continued vigilance and thorough examination of all aspects of the case.
