Odisha Schools to Mark National Youth Day with Collective Vande Mataram Rendition
In a significant statewide initiative, all educational institutions across Odisha will observe National Youth Day on January 12 with a coordinated singing of Vande Mataram. The event, which coincides with the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, was announced through an official statement released over the weekend.
Patriotic Observances and Student Engagement
Beyond the collective rendition of the national song, students will participate in a unified recitation of the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat Swadeshi Sankalp” (Self-Reliant India Indigenous Resolution). Each educational institution will also designate one student as an “Aatmanirbhar Bharat Ambassador,” a role intended to nurture patriotism and self-reliance among the younger generation.
Competitions and Training Initiatives Across the State
A series of competitions will be organized for students, with outstanding participants receiving recognition and awards. According to a communiqué from the Odia Language, Literature, and Culture Department, youth clubs throughout the state will also take part in the group singing events.
The department has directed all district collectors to ensure the smooth execution of the program. To facilitate flawless performances, a comprehensive statewide training initiative for Vande Mataram has been launched.
Regional Training Structure
The state has been divided into five zones for conducting regional-level training sessions:
- Jeypore
- Berhampur
- Balasore
- Sambalpur
- Bhubaneswar
Training programs for the Berhampur, Balasore, and Jeypore zones were completed in December. The Sambalpur regional training concluded on January 2, while the Bhubaneswar session wrapped up over the weekend, according to an official.
Cultural Significance Highlighted
Speaking at the Bhubaneswar regional training event held at Utkal University, Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj emphasized the historical importance of Vande Mataram. He described the song as a powerful voice of India’s freedom movement that continues to inspire national consciousness and patriotic fervor.
The minister noted that the anthem instills courage and strength in citizens, reinforcing its enduring relevance in contemporary times. The statewide initiative aims to connect young learners with this rich cultural heritage while promoting the ideals of self-reliance and national pride.
