The Significance of Kamada Ekadashi 2026

In the Sanatan tradition, the Ekadashi of the Chaitra Shukla Paksha, known as Kamada Ekadashi, holds immense spiritual merit. In 2026, this sacred fast will be observed on Sunday, March 29. According to ancient scriptures, this Ekadashi is believed to cleanse all sins and fulfill heartfelt desires. Devotees worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi on this day, offering specific foods (bhog) with devotion to seek their blessings. When offered with sincerity and proper rituals, these offerings are said to bring prosperity, happiness, and divine grace.

Seven Sacred Offerings to Please Lord Vishnu on Kamada Ekadashi

1. Panchamrit: The Nectar of Five Ingredients

Panchamrit, a holy mixture of milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar, is deeply cherished by Lord Vishnu. Using this for the ritual bathing (abhishek) of the deity and then offering it as bhog is believed to infuse life with purity and positive energy. This simple yet powerful offering symbolizes the essence of devotion and spiritual cleansing.

2. Tulsi Leaves and Buds (Plucked a Day Before)

Scriptures prohibit plucking Tulsi leaves on Sundays. Therefore, on the day before Kamada Ekadashi, carefully pick Tulsi leaves and buds, and store them in a clean place. During the puja, offer these to Lord Vishnu. This act is considered highly meritorious, as Tulsi is exceptionally dear to the Lord and enhances the sanctity of the worship.

3. Makhana and Saffron Kheer

Since consuming rice is traditionally avoided on Ekadashi, rice kheer is not prepared. Instead, a kheer made from makhana (fox nuts) and saffron is considered especially auspicious. This creamy, satvik dessert symbolizes purity and prosperity. Offering it to Lord Vishnu on this day is thought to attract abundance and spiritual upliftment.

4. Fruits: Especially Banana and Coconut

Bananas are believed to be a favorite of Lord Vishnu, while coconuts represent completeness and total surrender. Offering these fruits as bhog is said to invite peace, happiness, and material well-being into the home. Their natural sweetness and symbolic meaning make them a meaningful part of the ritual.

5. Butter and Sugar Candy (Makhan-Mishri)

This humble offering of fresh butter mixed with sugar candy signifies simplicity and sweetness. It is believed to foster love, harmony, and mental peace in one’s life. The gentle, pure nature of this bhog reflects the devotee’s heartfelt devotion and desire for a calm, loving existence.

6. Dry Fruits: Cashews, Almonds, Raisins

Dry fruits like cashews, almonds, and raisins are considered symbols of wealth and opulence. Offering these to Goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu, is a traditional way to seek financial stability and prosperity. This practice aligns with the belief that sincere offerings attract divine blessings for material well-being.

7. Yellow-Colored Offerings and Attire

Lord Vishnu has a profound affinity for the color yellow. On Kamada Ekadashi, dressing the deity in yellow garments, offering yellow flowers, and preparing yellow-colored bhog—such as those made with saffron or gram flour (besan)—is considered highly rewarding. This simple yet powerful practice is regarded as an effective way to invoke the Lord’s special grace and blessings.
