NEET PG 2026: Key Changes and Application Guidelines Every Candidate Must Know
The registration window for NEET PG 2026 is now open, and aspiring candidates have until July 21st to submit their applications. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has introduced several significant modifications to the examination process this year. Examination City Allocation: No More First-Come, First-Served
One of the most notable changes this year is the elimination of the first-come, first-served basis for allocating examination states, cities, or centers. The board has explicitly stated that submitting an application early will not provide any advantage in securing a preferred test location. Selecting Examination States: New Requirements
Candidates must now provide three preferences for examination states during the application process. While the board will make reasonable efforts to accommodate candidates’ preferences when assigning examination centers, they retain the discretion to allocate centers anywhere in the country. This flexibility is necessary due to administrative considerations, security protocols, technical requirements, and other operational factors that may influence center assignments.
Photograph and Document Upload Guidelines
Applicants must ensure that all uploaded photographs, signatures, and supporting documents are no more than three months old and adhere to the specified formatting requirements. Submissions that appear blurry, digitally altered, morphed, or fail to meet the prescribed standards may result in application rejection or the withholding of admit cards. Candidates should carefully review their images before uploading to ensure compliance with all specifications.
Immutable Information After Submission
Once the application has been finalized and submitted, candidates will not be able to make corrections to the following details:
- PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) category status
- Date of birth
- Mobile phone number
- Email address
- Other personal information fields
It is important to note that the information provided in the application will also be utilized during the counseling and admission processes. Candidates should therefore exercise extreme caution when entering these details and verify all information multiple times before final submission.
Aadhaar-Based Verification Now Mandatory
For the first time, NEET PG 2026 will implement Aadhaar-based authentication and verification procedures. Candidates will be required to provide their Aadhaar number wherever specified in the application form. It is essential that candidates keep their Aadhaar card unlocked when arriving at the examination center to ensure smooth verification. In cases where Aadhaar verification cannot be completed, alternative identification methods such as IRIS-based biometric verification may be employed.
Important Considerations for Examination Day
NBEMS has issued several recommendations to ensure a hassle-free experience on the day of the examination. Candidates should arrive at their assigned test center well before the designated reporting time to allow sufficient time for identity verification, biometric confirmation, and security screening procedures.

Protecting Personal Information
NBEMS has issued a stern warning to candidates regarding the confidentiality of their personal information. Candidates must never share their application number, password, Aadhaar details, mobile number, email address, or any examination-related information with unauthorized individuals. Fraudsters may attempt to misuse such information by making false promises related to score improvement, guaranteed admissions, or other deceptive offers.
Consequences of Malpractice
The board has made it clear that any candidate found involved in impersonation, use of unfair means, or any form of examination misconduct will face severe consequences. These may include cancellation of their candidature, prohibition from appearing in future examinations, and potential legal action.
NBEMS strongly advises candidates to disregard rumors or unofficial information circulating on social media platforms. All communications should be trusted only when they originate from official sources, including the NBEMS website, registered email communications, and authorized channels.
Proof of Correspondence Address
During the application process, candidates must submit one of the prescribed documents as proof of their correspondence address. This requirement is mandatory and constitutes an integral part of the application procedure. Candidates should prepare this documentation in advance to avoid any last-minute complications.
Revised Question Paper Structure
According to the information bulletin, the NBE has reduced the number of questions in the NEET PG examination from 200 to 180. Previously, the question paper consisted of 200 multiple-choice questions. The examination is scheduled to take place on August 30th, running from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM in a single shift conducted simultaneously across the country.
The bulletin specifies that the examination will contain 180 multiple-choice questions, with each question offering four answer options or distractors in English only. Candidates must select the correct, best, or most appropriate answer from the four choices provided for each question.
