The Significance of Padmini Ekadashi in the Extra Month

In the Hindu calendar, the occurrence of an extra month, known as Adhikamas or Purushottam Maas, is considered highly auspicious. The Ekadashi that falls during this period holds exceptional spiritual value and is celebrated as Padmini Ekadashi. This sacred day is exclusively dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe. Observing this fast with devotion is believed to bring immense blessings, including happiness, prosperity, and ultimately liberation from the cycle of birth and death. This year, the conjunction of auspicious yogas like Ravi and Sarvartha Siddhi further amplifies the spiritual merit of this already significant fast.

Padmini Ekadashi 2026: Date and Auspicious Timings

According to the Hindu Panchang, the Ekadashi tithi of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) in Adhikamas begins on May 26, 2026, at 5:11 AM and concludes on May 27, 2026, at 6:22 AM. Based on the Udaya Tithi (the tithi prevailing at sunrise), the Padmini Ekadashi fast will be observed on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

Optimal Muhurat for Padmini Ekadashi Worship

Performing the rituals during the most favorable time enhances the benefits of the fast. The Brahma Muhurat, an ideal time for spiritual practices, occurs from 4:03 AM to 4:44 AM. Devotees can take a holy bath, make a vow to observe the fast, and begin the worship during this period. Additionally, the Amrit-Sarvottam Muhurat, a highly beneficial time, lasts from 7:08 AM to 8:52 AM. Another favorable window, the Shubh-Uttam Muhurat, runs from 10:35 AM to 12:18 PM. During these periods, devotees can perform the ritual worship of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.

The Deep Spiritual Importance of Padmini Ekadashi

The importance of Padmini Ekadashi is immense, primarily because it falls within the rare Adhikamas. Ancient scriptures and religious texts state that observing this fast absolves a person of all sins and bestows a life filled with joy and prosperity. It is believed to remove obstacles and bring enduring happiness. Worshipping Goddess Lakshmi alongside Lord Vishnu on this day is said to grant all forms of wealth, splendor, and good fortune. The spiritual reward of this single fast is considered equivalent to performing thousands of major sacrifices or visiting countless holy pilgrimage sites. The fast is a powerful tool for cleansing the mind, body, and soul, attracting positive energy and divine grace.

Step-by-Step Rituals for Padmini Ekadashi

Following the prescribed rituals with sincerity is key to a successful fast. Here is a guide to the traditional worship method:

  • Morning Preparation: Wake up early, preferably during the Brahma Muhurat. Take a holy bath and offer water to the Sun God (Surya Dev) while chanting mantras. Take a firm resolve to observe the fast with full dedication.
  • Setting Up the Worship Area: Clean the place of worship thoroughly. Place an idol or image of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi in the northeast corner of the space.
  • Offering Items: Begin the puja by offering yellow sandalwood paste, vermillion (roli), whole rice grains (Akshat), yellow flowers, seasonal fruits, incense, a lamp (deep), and rock sugar (mishri) to Lord Vishnu.
  • The Importance of Tulsi: The offering of Tulsi (holy basil) leaves is considered indispensable in the worship of Lord Vishnu. Without them, the puja is believed to be incomplete. Offer a few fresh leaves with devotion.
  • Concluding the Puja: Conclude the worship by performing the Aarti of Lord Vishnu. Reciting sacred hymns like the Vishnu Sahasranama (the thousand names of Vishnu) and the Shri Suktam is highly recommended. Chanting the Vishnu mantra completes the ritual.
