It will be Meta’s first built-to-suit data center in India, meaning the entire facility is being tailored specifically to meet Meta’s operational requirements. Construction is slated for completion within the next 24 months, positioning it as one of the most advanced facilities of its kind in the country.
Environmental Commitment and Green Energy
A standout feature of this project is its dedication to sustainability. The data center will operate entirely on renewable energy sources, minimizing its carbon footprint. Additionally, the cooling system will utilize treated seawater from the nearby coast to manage heat generated by the equipment, reducing reliance on freshwater resources. Meta has also signed agreements with two energy companies to secure nearly 1 gigawatt of clean power across India:
- CleanMax: Developing 837 megawatts of new solar and wind projects in Rajasthan and Karnataka.
- Fourth Partner Energy: Establishing 88 megawatts of solar and wind projects in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh.

Jamnagar holds strategic importance for Reliance, as the company is already developing one of the world’s largest data center campuses there. Furthermore, the availability of seawater for cooling and the region’s growing renewable energy infrastructure make it an ideal site. Meta will cover all electricity and water costs associated with the facility. The partnership also leverages Meta’s extensive underwater cable network, one of the longest globally, to deliver high-speed, high-quality internet services to Indian users.
