The Significance of Shani Pradosh Vrat in June 2026

Devotees of Lord Shiva will observe the second Pradosh Vrat of June 2026 on Saturday, June 27. As this day falls on a Saturday, it is known as Shani Pradosh Vrat, a particularly auspicious occasion for worship. This fast holds deep spiritual importance during the Jyeshtha month, with special reverence given to both Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is believed that observing this fast with sincere devotion and performing rituals during the Pradosh period gradually removes life’s obstacles and bestows blessings of happiness and prosperity. Before undertaking the fast and prayers, understanding the essential rules and precautions is crucial for a meaningful experience.

Auspicious Timing for Shani Pradosh Vrat

Pradosh Vrat is observed every month on the Trayodashi (thirteenth day) of both the Shukla (waxing) and Krishna (waning) lunar phases. For this occasion, the Trayodashi tithi begins at 10:22 AM on June 27 and concludes at 12:43 AM on June 28. According to the Pradosh period, the fast will be kept on June 27 itself. The most favorable window for worship, known as the Pradosh Kaal, will last from 7:04 PM to 9:06 PM. Performing the rituals during this specific timeframe is considered highly beneficial.

Simple Step-by-Step Puja Rituals

The worship procedure for this fast is straightforward and accessible. Begin your day by waking up early, taking a bath, and wearing clean clothes. Take a formal vow (sankalp) to observe the fast with full dedication. Set up an image or idol of Lord Shiva in your home temple, light a lamp and incense sticks, and then reverently worship the Shiva Linga.

Offerings for the Shiva Linga

Start the puja by performing an abhishek (ritual bathing) of the Shiva Linga with pure water and holy Ganga water. Follow this by offering Panchamrit (a mixture of milk, curd, honey, ghee, and sugar). Present Belpatra (bilva leaves), Datura flowers, Aak flowers, and white sandalwood paste to Lord Shiva. Conclude by lighting the lamp and incense again, and chant the mantra “Om Namah Shivaya” 108 times. These offerings, made with heartfelt devotion, are especially dear to Lord Shiva. Additionally, you may perform abhishek with sugarcane juice, honey, or fresh cow’s milk if available. Ensure that all items used in the puja are pure and fresh.

Important Precautions to Follow on Pradosh Vrat

To ensure the fast is observed correctly and with full spiritual benefit, keep these key points in mind:

  • Do not offer turmeric, vermilion (sindoor), or Tulsi leaves to the Shiva Linga.
  • Always use fresh and clean Belpatra for the worship.
  • Avoid anger, harsh words, or negative thoughts during the puja.
  • Perform the Pradosh Kaal rituals calmly and with complete focus, without rushing.
  • Refrain from consuming tamasic food, alcohol, or non-vegetarian items on this day.

By observing these guidelines, devotees can honor the sanctity of Shani Pradosh Vrat and invite divine grace into their lives.
