Telangana Moves to Introduce AI Education from School Level

The Telangana government has taken a significant step toward modernizing its education system by planning to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) instruction beginning at the school level. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed officials to implement the necessary measures to make this initiative a reality.

According to an official press release, the decision stems from the growing global importance of AI across industries and everyday life. The Chief Minister emphasized that students must be equipped with future-ready skills from an early age to remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven world.

Teacher Training and Curriculum Upgrades

As part of the initiative, the state government will organize short-term training programs for teachers and lecturers to ensure they stay current with emerging technologies. These training sessions are designed to help educators deliver AI concepts effectively and guide students in developing practical skills.

Beyond school-level instruction, the Chief Minister has also ordered the immediate introduction of AI-based courses at polytechnic colleges and Advanced Technology Centers (ATCs), which are upgraded versions of traditional ITIs. Outdated curricula will be replaced with modern, industry-relevant programs that align with current market demands.

Students who complete these courses will be given priority access to job opportunities in relevant industries, creating a direct pathway from education to employment.

Expansion of Public Schools Across the State

In a major announcement, the Chief Minister revealed plans to open Telangana Public Schools in 100 assembly constituencies across the state, excluding Hyderabad, starting from the next academic year. Each of these institutions will be equipped with sports facilities, qualified teaching staff, modern classrooms, and transportation services to ensure a comprehensive learning environment.

Emphasizing the importance of quality education, Reddy stressed that all government schools should be developed as role models for the state. He assured that substantial funding would be allocated to strengthen the education sector and improve infrastructure across the board.

Focus on Modernization and Student Welfare

The government has directed engineers to construct 12 new government schools in Hyderabad’s Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) area. These institutions will feature amenities comparable to corporate schools, with facilities matching the standards of the well-regarded Jubilee Hills Public School.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the proposal to introduce breakfast programs in all government schools from the 2026-27 academic year. As part of this initiative, every student will receive milk from the government-run Vijaya Dairy, ensuring basic nutritional support for young learners.

Officials have been instructed to leverage technology to monitor students’ nutritional requirements, including calorie intake, to ensure that health and wellness remain a priority alongside academics.

Review of Fee Structure and Education Policy

During the meeting, the Telangana Private School Fee Regulatory Monitoring Commission submitted its report on fee regulation for private institutions. The Chief Minister stated that a committee headed by a retired judge or retired chief secretary would make the final determination on the fee structure.

To ensure transparency and inclusivity, the government plans to place the draft fee structure in the public domain, inviting feedback from parents, intellectuals, and social workers before any final decisions are made.

Additionally, the Chairman and members of the Telangana Education Commission presented a detailed report on the state’s education policy, covering each point thoroughly. The Chief Minister assigned government advisor Keshav Rao the task of preparing a comprehensive report on implementation issues and related matters arising from the commission’s recommendations.

These sweeping changes reflect the state government’s commitment to transforming Telangana’s educational landscape through technological integration, infrastructure development, and policy reforms designed to benefit students at every level.
