TRAI Enhances DND App with Appeal Feature; New MyCall App Coming in March
India’s telecom regulator, TRAI, is rolling out significant upgrades to its consumer-focused applications, aiming to give users more control over unwanted communications and network quality issues. Among the most notable changes is the upcoming addition of an appeal feature in the Do Not Disturb (DND) app, alongside the launch of a brand-new MyCall application scheduled for March.
Appeal Mechanism for Unsatisfied Complaints
TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti has confirmed that the DND app will soon allow consumers to escalate complaints if they are not satisfied with the response from their service provider. Instead of being left with no recourse after a provider’s decision, users will be able to file an appeal directly through the app, sending their grievance to higher authorities for review. While this feature is expected to roll out shortly, no exact timeline has been provided for its implementation.
MyCall App to Address Call Quality Issues
A dedicated application for reporting call quality problems, named MyCall, is set to debut in March. Lahoti explained that this app will enable consumers to log complaints specifically related to voice call clarity, dropped calls, and other audio issues. This move is part of a broader effort to streamline how users report and resolve connectivity problems.
Multilingual Support for DND and MySpeed Apps
TRAI has also introduced updated versions of both the DND and MySpeed applications. The DND app, widely used to report spam calls and unsolicited commercial SMS, now includes multilingual support. This enhancement is particularly aimed at making the app more accessible in rural and remote areas. Users will be able to file complaints in regional languages with fewer steps, improving ease of use. Additionally, the app now offers better preference management and stronger dual-SIM support.
According to Lahoti, the importance of the DND app is underscored by recent data: in 2025 alone, TRAI received 3.1 million complaints about unwanted commercial calls. Of these, over 1.7 million—more than half—were registered through the DND app. The updated version also lets users identify SMS headers and the names of senders using 1600-series numbers.
MySpeed App Gets an Upgrade
The MySpeed app, which measures internet speed, has also received a significant update. It now supports multiple languages and can test speeds on 5G networks. Beyond mobile networks, users can now check the performance of fixed-line broadband and Wi-Fi connections. A new web portal has been introduced for those who prefer to run speed tests on their laptops.
Real-World Network Testing
The revamped MySpeed app goes beyond simple speed tests. It now allows users to assess network performance under real-world conditions, such as during video streaming or web browsing. In addition to measuring speed and latency, the app can now track jitter and packet loss—two factors that directly affect video quality and overall internet experience. This makes the tool more practical for diagnosing everyday connectivity issues.
