UGC NET June 2026: Final Application Window Closes Soon

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has reminded candidates that the registration window for the UGC NET June 2026 examination is about to close. Aspirants who have not yet submitted their online forms are urged to complete the process without delay. The NTA has also cautioned that once the form is submitted, no corrections will be permitted, making it essential for candidates to verify every detail carefully before final submission.

Key Dates and Deadlines

The online application process began on 29 April 2026 and will remain open until 20 May 2026, with the deadline set at 11:50 PM. Candidates must ensure that their application fee is also paid by this time through available payment methods, including credit card, debit card, net banking, or UPI. A short correction window has been scheduled from 22 May to 24 May 2026, allowing applicants to fix any errors in their submitted forms. However, this window should not be relied upon as a substitute for careful initial submission.

Examination city information will be released by 10 June 2026, while admit cards are expected to be available for download by 15 June 2026. The examination itself will be conducted from 22 June to 30 June 2026, with exact dates and shifts mentioned on the admit card. Candidates are advised to regularly check the official NTA website for updates regarding answer key releases and result announcements.

Application Fee Structure

The application fee varies depending on the candidate’s category. Those falling under the General or Unreserved category are required to pay ₹1,150. Candidates from the General-EWS and OBC-NCL categories will need to pay ₹600. For SC, ST, and PwD candidates, the fee is set at ₹325, which also applies to candidates identifying as third gender. All payments must be completed online before the deadline.

Examination Overview

The UGC NET examination is conducted by the NTA on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). This national-level test determines eligibility for Assistant Professor positions in colleges and universities across India. It also serves as the qualifying examination for candidates seeking Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and admission to PhD programmes.

For the June 2026 cycle, the examination will cover 85 subjects. The test will be administered in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode, requiring candidates to be comfortable with the digital testing format. This approach ensures a streamlined and efficient examination process for all participants.

Step-by-Step Application Process

To complete the application successfully, candidates should follow the prescribed procedure carefully:

  • Visit the official NTA website and locate the “New Registration” option on the homepage.
  • Read all instructions thoroughly before proceeding, then tick the confirmation checkbox to continue.
  • You will be redirected to the DigiLocker platform for identity verification.
  • New users must complete the “Sign Up” process, while returning users can simply “Login” using OTP authentication.
  • Choose one of the accepted identification documents, such as Aadhaar, PAN card, or Driving License, and enter the required details.
  • After OTP verification, fill in your personal information and create your account.
  • Once permission is granted, the UGC NET application form will become accessible.
  • Complete all personal and academic details, set a password, and enter the Captcha code as displayed.
  • Review all information one final time before clicking the “Submit” button.

Candidates are strongly advised to double-check their name, parents’ names, category, disability status, subject selection, and preferred examination city. Any discrepancies discovered after submission cannot be rectified, so a thorough review at the time of application is critical.

With the deadline fast approaching, eligible candidates should not delay. Completing the application process early not only ensures a smooth submission but also provides ample time to address any technical issues that may arise. The NTA has emphasized the importance of timely action, and candidates are encouraged to treat this advisory seriously to avoid missing out on this opportunity.
