UP Board Result 2026: Minimum Marks Required to Pass Class 10 and 12

The wait is finally over for millions of students who appeared for the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UP Board) examinations. The board has officially announced the results for both Class 10 and Class 12. This year, the overall pass percentage for Class 12 stands at 80.38%, while Class 10 has recorded a pass rate of 90.40%.

With results now available, a common question is doing the rounds among students: What is the minimum score needed to clear the exams? If you are also wondering about the passing criteria, here is everything you need to know about the marks required and the rules that apply.

Passing Marks for Class 10 and 12

To successfully clear the UP Board examinations for both Class 10 and Class 12, students must secure a minimum score in every subject. According to the board’s regulations, a candidate needs to obtain at least 33% marks in each subject to be declared pass. This means if a paper is worth 100 marks, a student must score a minimum of 33 marks to clear it. The same 33% rule applies uniformly across papers with different maximum marks.

For subjects that include both theory and practical components, students are required to pass both sections separately. In other words, a candidate must secure at least 33% in the theory paper as well as 33% in the practical examination. Failing to meet the threshold in either component can result in being marked as unsuccessful in that subject, regardless of the combined score.

What Happens If a Student Scores Below the Passing Marks?

Students who fail in one or two subjects are not left without options. The board provides an opportunity to appear for compartment examinations. This allows candidates to retake the exam in the subjects they failed and clear them, thereby saving an academic year without having to repeat the entire course.

In certain situations where a student falls short of the passing marks by a very narrow margin, the board may consider awarding grace marks. However, this is not a guaranteed provision and is subject to the board’s discretion. The decision to grant grace marks depends on specific criteria and is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Rules Governing Grace Marks

The UP Board has a well-defined policy for awarding grace marks under special circumstances. The primary objective of this provision is to give students a fair chance to pass when they miss the cutoff by only a few marks. The board evaluates each case carefully and applies the rules uniformly across all candidates.

Typically, grace marks are considered when a student is very close to the passing threshold and the additional marks would not significantly alter their overall performance. It is important to note that grace marks are not automatically given to every student who fails. The board assesses individual cases and makes decisions based on the established framework. Students who receive grace marks are considered to have passed the examination, and their final marksheet reflects the adjusted scores.

How to Check the UP Board Result

Students can access their results through the official result portal by following a simple step-by-step process. Here is how to check and download the scorecard:

  • Visit the result section of the official website.
  • Select the UP Board option from the list of available boards.
  • Choose the appropriate link based on your class — Class 10 or Class 12.
  • Enter the required credentials, including registration number, roll number, and roll code.
  • Click on the submit button to view your result.
  • Your marksheet will appear on the screen once the details are verified.
  • Use the download option to save a copy of your online marksheet for future reference.

Students are advised to keep their login credentials handy and ensure they enter the correct information to avoid any errors while accessing the results. It is also recommended to download and save the marksheet immediately after the result is displayed, as the portal may experience high traffic during peak hours.

For those who have successfully cleared the examinations, the next step is to focus on their academic journey ahead. Students who need to appear for compartment exams should start preparing immediately and keep track of the official schedule released by the board. With proper preparation and a clear understanding of the passing criteria, every student can move forward confidently in their educational path.
