UP DElEd 2025-27 Counselling Schedule Announced; Over 1.15 Lakh Seats Expected to Remain Vacant

The Examination Regulatory Authority (ERA) of Uttar Pradesh has officially released the detailed counselling schedule for admission to the Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd) program for the 2025-27 academic session. The online counselling process is set to commence on 12 January 2025, with a structured timeline designed to streamline seat allocation across the state.

This year, a significant disparity has emerged between the number of available seats and the total applications received. With only 1,24,230 candidates applying against 2,39,500 sanctioned seats, education officials project that more than 1,15,000 seats will likely go unfilled—a trend that underscores the declining interest in teacher training programs across Uttar Pradesh.

Phased Counselling Based on State Rank

According to the official notification issued by ERA, the counselling procedure will be conducted in multiple phases, with candidates grouped according to their state rank. Detailed information regarding each stage has been published on the official DElEd portal, and candidates are encouraged to monitor the website regularly for updates and notices.

Counselling Fee and Preference Submission Window

Candidates holding state ranks between 1 and 1,24,230 are eligible to participate in the counselling process. The window for depositing the counselling fee of ₹5,000 and submitting college preferences will remain open from 8 January through 10 February 2025. This extended timeline provides ample opportunity for applicants to make informed decisions regarding their institution choices.

First Phase Seat Allocation Breakdown

The first phase of seat allocation has been divided into three distinct segments based on rank categories, ensuring a systematic and transparent distribution process.

Rank 1 to 20,000

  • Preference filling window: 12 to 14 January
  • Seat allocation result: 15 January

Rank 20,001 to 70,000

  • Preference filling window: 15 to 18 January
  • Seat allocation result: 19 January

Rank 70,001 to 1,24,230

  • Preference filling window: 19 to 22 January
  • Seat allocation result: 23 January

Candidates who receive seat allocations during the first phase must complete all admission-related formalities by 6:00 PM on 30 January. Failure to complete the necessary documentation within this deadline may result in forfeiture of the allocated seat.

Second Phase Counselling Schedule

The second phase of counselling has been designed specifically for candidates who did not secure a seat during the initial allocation round. This phase also accommodates applicants from other states and those belonging to reserved categories who remain unallocated.

5 to 8 February

During this period, preference filling will be open for eligible candidates from other states, as well as for applicants from Uttar Pradesh belonging to OBC, SC, ST, and special reservation categories who were unsuccessful in the first phase.

9 February

The seat allocation results for this phase will be announced, providing clarity to candidates regarding their admission status.

9 to 12 February

An open choice-filling window will be available for all candidates holding ranks between 1 and 1,24,230. This provides a final opportunity for applicants to update or modify their institution preferences before the conclusion of the counselling process.

The admission procedure for this phase will run from 11 to 21 February 2025, with the deadline set at 5:00 PM. Participating institutions are required to submit their online admission reports by 23 February. The academic session is scheduled to commence on 24 February 2025.

Seat Availability and Application Statistics

Official data reveals that a total of 2,39,500 seats are available for the DElEd program across Uttar Pradesh this academic year. This includes 10,600 seats spread across 67 government-run District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET), alongside 2,28,900 seats distributed among 3,304 private and minority institutions.

Despite this substantial seat inventory, the response from prospective candidates has been notably underwhelming. The mere 1,24,230 applications received represent a shortfall of approximately 1,15,270 seats—a figure that would persist even if every applicant were successfully admitted. This pronounced gap highlights the growing challenges facing teacher education programs in the state.

Reservation and Seat Conversion Guidelines

ERA has issued important clarifications regarding reserved category seats. In the event that seats earmarked for OBC, SC, ST, and other special categories remain vacant after all eligible candidates have been provided opportunities, these seats will be converted to the unreserved category during the final stage of the second phase. This conversion policy aims to minimize seat wastage and ensure maximum utilization of available training capacity.

Essential Guidance for Candidates

Candidates are strongly advised to submit their college and course preferences strictly within the designated dates corresponding to their rank category. All official communications, including notices, schedules, and updates pertaining to the counselling process, will be published exclusively on the official DElEd website. The authority has explicitly cautioned applicants against relying on third-party websites or unofficial sources for information, emphasizing that only communications from the official portal should be considered authentic and reliable.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to maintain regular vigilance over the official platform and prepare all necessary documents well in advance to ensure a smooth and timely completion of the admission formalities.
