UP NEET PG Counselling 2025 Resumes from January 23

The Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DGME) in Uttar Pradesh has officially confirmed that the NEET PG counselling process for 2025 will resume on January 23, 2026. The state-level admission procedure had been temporarily halted due to delays in the All India Quota (AIQ) counselling schedule.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has now released a revised timeline for both AIQ and state-level counselling. According to officials, the postponement occurred because several new medical colleges received approval during the process, and the total number of available seats was expanded. These administrative adjustments pushed back the original counselling dates.

Revised NEET PG Cut-Off Sparks Debate

In a parallel development, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved a substantial reduction in the NEET PG 2025 qualifying percentile. For candidates from the General and EWS categories, the cut-off has been lowered to the 7th percentile. For SC, ST, and OBC categories, the qualifying percentile has been brought down to zero.

This significant change has generated considerable controversy among aspirants and academic experts. Critics have described the move as undermining the merit-based selection process. A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the decision to reduce qualifying marks to such low levels.

No Fresh Registration Required for Existing Candidates

The state medical counselling committee has clarified that candidates who have already completed their registration for UP NEET PG counselling will not need to submit new applications. However, seat allotment will only proceed for those who meet the prescribed eligibility requirements. The counselling process will facilitate admissions into both government and private medical colleges across the state.

Round 3 Counselling Schedule

The official timetable for Round 3 of UP NEET PG counselling includes the following key dates:

  • Online Registration: January 23 to February 1
  • Registration and Security Deposit: January 23 to February 1
  • Merit List Publication: February 2
  • Online Choice Filling: February 3 to February 7
  • Round 3 Seat Allotment Result: February 9
  • Allotment Letter Download and Admission: February 9 to February 13

The seat allotment results for Round 3 will be published on February 9, 2026. Candidates are strongly advised to complete all counselling-related activities within the specified deadlines and to monitor the official website regularly for any further announcements or changes to the schedule.

Given the extended timeline and the adjustments made to the qualifying criteria, candidates are encouraged to stay alert and prepare their documentation in advance. Those who have already registered should verify their details and ensure that all required information is accurate before the choice-filling window opens.

The resumption of counselling brings some clarity to thousands of medical aspirants who have been waiting for the admission process to move forward. With the revised schedule now in place, candidates can plan their next steps accordingly and focus on securing admission to their preferred institutions and specialisations.
