Uttar Pradesh RTE Admissions 2026-27: Free Seats in Private Schools – Registration Opens

The education department in Uttar Pradesh has officially launched the application process for the Right to Education (RTE) Act admissions for the academic session 2026-27. Under this initiative, children from economically weaker sections and socially disadvantaged groups can secure free admission to private schools across the state. The registration will be conducted online in three distinct phases, offering eligible families ample opportunity to apply.

Understanding the RTE Quota and Eligibility

As per the provisions of the RTE Act, private unaided schools are required to reserve 25 percent of their total seats in entry-level classes for students belonging to underprivileged backgrounds. This includes admissions into Nursery, LKG, UKG, and Class 1. The initiative aims to ensure that every child has access to quality education, regardless of their family’s financial standing.

The selection of schools for admitted children will be carried out through a transparent lottery system, ensuring fairness and equal opportunity for all applicants.

Application Timeline: Three Phases

The registration window has been divided into three separate phases to accommodate all applicants. Parents and guardians must adhere to the specified dates for each phase:

  • Phase 1: Applications accepted from February 2 to February 16, 2026
  • Phase 2: Applications accepted from February 21 to March 7, 2026
  • Phase 3: Applications accepted from March 12 to March 25, 2026

Each phase follows a structured timeline, and applicants are encouraged to submit their forms within these windows to avoid missing out on the opportunity.

Lottery Schedule for School Allocation

Once the application deadlines close, the lottery draws will be conducted to determine which school each child is assigned to. The schedule for these draws is as follows:

  • First Lottery: Scheduled for February 18, 2026
  • Second Lottery: Scheduled for March 9, 2026
  • Third Lottery: Scheduled for March 27, 2026

Following each lottery, the Basic Education Officer will issue necessary directives to the respective private schools regarding the enrollment of selected students. This ensures that the admission process moves forward smoothly and without unnecessary delays.

Mandatory Enrollment Deadline

The education department has issued clear instructions that all children selected through the lottery must be formally admitted to their allotted schools by April 11, 2026, without exception. This deadline applies across all districts in the state. Every recognized private unaided school is obligated to reserve at least 25 percent of its total seats in entry-level classes for RTE admissions.

Age Criteria for Admission

To be eligible for admission under the RTE scheme, children must meet specific age requirements. The age will be calculated based on April 1, 2026, as the reference date. The class-wise age limits are as follows:

  • Nursery: 3 to 4 years
  • LKG: 4 to 5 years
  • UKG: 5 to 6 years
  • Class 1: 6 to 7 years

Parents must ensure that their child falls within the prescribed age bracket for the class they are applying to. Any deviation from these limits may result in disqualification from the admission process.

Online Application Process

The entire application procedure under the RTE scheme is conducted online. There is no provision for offline submissions. Parents and guardians are required to visit the official RTE portal designated by the Uttar Pradesh education department to complete the registration process. It is essential to fill in accurate details and upload the necessary documents to avoid complications during verification.

The online system has been designed to be user-friendly, allowing applicants to complete their submissions with ease. However, those unfamiliar with digital processes are advised to seek assistance from local resources or educational facilitators to ensure their applications are correctly submitted within the stipulated timeframes.

This initiative represents a significant step toward inclusive education in Uttar Pradesh, ensuring that financial constraints do not stand in the way of a child’s right to learn and grow. Families meeting the eligibility criteria are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and secure free, quality education for their children in private schools.
