A devastating incident has shaken the community of Tamraura village in Etah district, Uttar Pradesh, where a 35-year-old farmer took his own life after his potato crop was severely damaged. According to family members, Sopveer, son of Shiv Singh, had been struggling with mounting financial worries and deep mental stress for several days. On the day of the incident, he visited his fields only to discover that his potato crop had suffered extensive damage. Overcome by despair, he returned home, retreated to his room, and used a firearm kept in the house to shoot himself in the temple.
A Festive Atmosphere Shattered by a Gunshot
The tragedy struck at a time when the family was preparing for the upcoming Holi celebrations. Sopveer’s wife, Veenu Devi, recounted that festive dishes were being prepared in the kitchen, while her mother-in-law, Kamlesh Kumari, was busy plastering the courtyard. Suddenly, the sound of a gunshot rang out from the room. Rushing inside, the family found Sopveer lying on the floor, covered in blood.
He was immediately rushed to the Community Health Centre in Aliganj, where doctors declared him dead upon examination. The sudden loss has left Veenu Devi and her two young sons, Shivanshu and Manav, inconsolable. The boys, now fatherless, have been weeping uncontrollably, and the household is steeped in sorrow.
Police Investigation Underway
Upon receiving the news, police from the Nayagaon station arrived at the scene. They took custody of the body and sent it for postmortem examination. The Aliganj Circle Officer, Rajesh Kumar Singh, along with a team from the Aliganj police station, also visited the health centre to gather statements from the family. A detailed panchnama (site inspection report) is being prepared.
Preliminary findings suggest the incident was a suicide, but authorities are investigating all angles thoroughly. The officer in charge of Nayagaon police station, Anil Kumar, confirmed that a police team was dispatched immediately after the alert and that the case is under active investigation.

Upon learning of the tragedy, Suraj Singh Rathore, son of the local MLA from Aliganj, arrived at the health centre to offer his condolences and support to the grieving family. He spent time consoling the distraught relatives.
