WBBSE Madhyamik Results 2026 Announced: Pass Percentage Climbs to 86.83%

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has officially released the results for the Class 10 Madhyamik examinations held in 2026. Students who appeared for the tests can now access their scorecards through the board’s official portal. This year, the overall pass rate has seen a slight improvement, reaching 86.83%.

Nearly 9.71 lakh students registered for and took the annual secondary examination. The current pass percentage marks a modest increase from last year’s figure of 86.56%, reflecting a positive trend in academic performance across the state.

District-Wise Performance Highlights

Among the various districts, Kalimpong has emerged as the frontrunner with an impressive pass rate of 95.01%. It is closely followed by Purba Medinipur, which recorded 94.02%, and Kolkata secured the third spot with 92.31%. These figures highlight the strong educational outcomes in these regions.

Top Rankers of the Madhyamik Examination

The merit list for 2026 features 131 students within the top 10 ranks, including 28 female candidates. Abhirup Bhadra has secured the coveted first position statewide with an outstanding score of 99.71%. The following table details the top-performing students and their respective scores:

  • Rank 1: Abhirup Bhadra – 99.71%
  • Rank 2: Priyotosh Mukherjee – 99.43%
  • Rank 3: Sourya Jana – 99.29%
  • Rank 3: Ankan Kumar Jana – 99.29%
  • Rank 3: Mainak Mandal – 99.29%
  • Rank 4: Arijit Bor – 99.14%
  • Rank 4: Ram Karmakar – 99.14%
  • Rank 4: Surodip Das – 99.14%
  • Rank 4: Soham Joardar – 99.14%

Exam Schedule and Centers

The Madhyamik examinations were conducted across the state from February 2 to February 12, 2026. A network of more than 2,600 examination centers was established to facilitate the smooth administration of the tests. The online mark sheets provide comprehensive details, including the student’s name, roll number, registration number, subject-wise grades, total marks obtained, and the overall pass/fail status.

Passing Criteria for Students

To successfully clear the secondary examination, candidates are required to secure a minimum of 34% aggregate marks. This translates to at least 272 marks out of a possible total of 800. Additionally, students must meet the specific passing criteria set for each individual subject. Those who fail in one or more subjects will be given an opportunity to appear for the compartmental examination, which the board will organize at a later date.

Historical Performance Overview

Looking back at previous years, the pass percentage for the Madhyamik examination was 86.56% in 2025, with results announced on May 2. In 2024, the overall pass rate was recorded at 83.61%. The steady increase over these years indicates a consistent improvement in student performance.

Students can follow these simple steps to check their scores on the official WBBSE website:

  • Visit the official WBBSE website.
  • Locate and click on the link labeled “Madhyamik Result 2026.”
  • Enter your roll number and date of birth in the designated fields.
  • Submit the information to view your result on the screen.
  • Download or print the scorecard for future reference.

The board has advised all students to verify the details on their mark sheets and contact their respective schools if they notice any discrepancies. With the results now public, students can plan their next academic steps, whether that involves pursuing higher secondary education in their preferred stream or exploring other career pathways.
