Global Outage Hits X, Thousands Affected Worldwide
Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, experienced a major global outage on Friday, disrupting service for tens of thousands of users across multiple countries. While the technical glitch caused widespread inconvenience, tracking data suggests that services have now been largely restored.
United States Saw the Highest Impact
According to reports from the outage monitoring platform Downdetector, the disruption was most severe in the United States. The timeline of the incident, recorded in Indian Standard Time (IST), unfolded as follows:
- 8:44 PM IST: The issue peaked, with over 74,000 users in the U.S. filing reports that the platform was inaccessible or malfunctioning.
- 11:04 PM IST: Conditions improved significantly, and the number of complaints dropped to approximately 4,000.
The monitoring site also noted that the actual number of affected users may be higher, as its data relies solely on voluntarily submitted reports from individuals.
Disruptions Also Reported in India and the UK
The outage was not confined to the United States. Users in other regions also faced difficulties:
- United Kingdom: More than 14,000 outage reports were logged initially, but this figure later fell to just 440.
- India: Complaints from Indian users subsided to around 500.
- Canada: A noticeable decline in reports from Canada was also observed as services stabilized.
Second Outage in a Week
Notably, this marks the second technical failure on X within a single week. During the earlier outage, over 28,300 users in the U.S. and more than 8,000 in the UK had lodged complaints. As of now, X has not issued an official statement regarding the cause of either disruption.
