AIIMS Marks Research Day with a Spotlight on National Health Priorities

The occasion served as a platform for the institution to showcase its latest research breakthroughs and highlight emerging healthcare technologies. Prof. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS, underscored the event’s role in motivating young researchers to channel their work toward addressing the country’s specific health challenges. During the event, Prof. Srinivas revealed the scale of AIIMS’s current research enterprise. The institute is actively managing more than 1,000 funded projects, representing a substantial investment exceeding ₹300 crore. This robust portfolio is complemented by the individual achievements of its faculty; a remarkable 57 scientists from AIIMS have been recognized among the world’s top 2% of researchers, a testament to the high caliber of work being produced at the institute.

The program also featured a keynote address from Dr. Shivkumar Kalyanaraman of the National Research Foundation, who served as the chief guest. Live Demonstration of Telerobotic Ultrasound
A standout moment of the event was the live demonstration of an innovative telerobotic ultrasound system. Developed through a collaborative effort between AIIMS and IIT Delhi, this cutting-edge technology enables medical professionals to perform ultrasound examinations from thousands of kilometers away. Using a robotic arm, doctors can conduct real-time assessments of the abdomen, heart, and blood vessels, offering a potential solution for expanding access to diagnostic care in remote and underserved regions of the country. This live display aptly illustrated the practical application of innovation in bridging geographical gaps in healthcare delivery.
